U S S I C E N I

Some time in 2012 one person had the idea of starting a group of their own, where likeminded people (fans of Star Trek) could come together, cosplay at events, talk about their shared interests, go on days out together, and along the way hopefully become good friends with each other too.

At first It seemed like somewhat of an impossible task, but through sheer determination, perseverance (and a hope it would pay off in the long run), in March of 2013 the USS Iceni was born.

​

It wasn’t an easy road to travel (to get to the birth of the group), there were no roads paved with Latium, just one person wiling to try something they had never tried doing before.

​

The first year seemed like it would be the hardest (what with trying to get new members and grow the group to something that could easily stand on its own two feet without too much help from others), but over time, people started joining up, some everlasting friendships were born, and a sense of community grew from what was at one time just an idea planted in someone’s head.

​

Like with many things the Pandemic had a huge impact on which direction the group took (as of 2019 / early 2020), and for a while it sat there in the background only coming out online (having lost its true identity and reason for being) but it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as a handful of members were determined to keep the group going (in one form or another) even when face 2 face contact was limited / restricted due to the Pandemic.

Because of all that, as of now, thanks to those people (who helped keep the flame of the USS Iceni burning, even when strong winds were blowing) the USS Iceni members are able to meet up (not just online) at conventions, museums, people’s houses for BBQs, movie and games night, peoples birthdays, and so so so much more.

​

As established as the USS Iceni is, her story and voyage (into all things fandom and fun) are far from over, and there is always room for new members.

As for the naming for the group, well that’s a whole story in itself. please feel free to click HERE if you’d like read more about that.

As for the group being based on an intrepid-class starship. Well as fans of the Intrepid-class starship Voyager (as seen in the series with the same name) with it's sleek design, amour plated hull, bad ass captain, and the fact it could withstand attacks from races like the Borg (ok so maybe most of that was more luck then anything else lol), the USS Iceni had to be an Intrepid-class starship to.
